In Westerly, Rhode Island, students in the Chariho Career and Technical Center's Electrical Technology class took a field trip to ProSystems Integration, a local automation company. The visit was intended to expose the students to career opportunities on the industrial side of the electrical field, which they might not otherwise have considered. The students were given a tour of the facility and were able to speak with engineers about their work. The company's president and owner, John Brunelle, and his son Jesse, a Chariho alumnus and an engineer at the company, explained that the industry is heavily driven by customer demand. They also noted that while the machinery itself hasn't changed much over the years, the controls are constantly evolving with new technology.

Meanwhile, in the world of smart homes, German electrical engineering manufacturer Wago is introducing its first Matter-enabled products. The company's Strategic Product Manager, Manfred Lehmann, said that the new "WAGO Home Automation" product line will make it easier for electricians to create smart homes and apartments. He also said that the Matter standard is key to this, as it will allow for the connection of consumer electronics with professional building installations. Wago is also offering two wireless versions of its product range, one with Matter over Wi-Fi and the other with Matter over Thread. Lehmann said that the company is relying on Thread as the communication standard for the smart home of the future, but that Wi-Fi is a good option for households with older Matter controllers that don't have a Thread Border Router.

Finally, a number of companies are hiring electrical engineers to work on a variety of cutting-edge technologies. These include Nvidia, which is a core infrastructure company in the AI economy; Apple, which designs much of its own hardware; and Tesla, which is working on self-driving electric vehicles and humanoid robots. Other companies that are hiring electrical engineers include Intel, Siemens, ABB, RTX, Lockheed Martin, Schneider Electric, and TSMC.
