Electricians and Emergency Services Face Low Automation Risk as AI-Driven Economy Demands Human Skills

While some sectors are highly susceptible to automation, professions that require manual dexterity, problem-solving, and human interaction are less so. According to a recent report, electricians have a low automation risk of 14% and are experiencing high demand, a trend expected to continue as infrastructure, including AI data centers and EV charging networks, expands. The report, which analyzed over 55 manual professions, found that emergency services, social services, and healthcare have the lowest average automation risks at 11%, 12%, and 16%, respectively. In contrast, agriculture, production, and utilities face the highest risks, with automation likelihoods of 89%, 82%, and 81%.

The most at-risk jobs include patternmakers in metal and plastic (99%), underground mining machine operators (97%), and milling and planing machine operators (91%). Conversely, roles such as emergency medical technicians (7%), firefighters (9%), and healthcare social workers (12%) are among the least likely to be automated. Police officers and electricians also rank as highly secure professions, with automation risks of 13% and 14%, respectively.

The study utilized employment data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and a machine learning model to assess automation risk, focusing on the physical backbone of the workforce. The findings suggest that as repetitive jobs become increasingly automated, roles demanding human instinct, adaptability, and connection will become more essential in an AI-driven economy.

Recent developments in the electrical industry further highlight the move toward automation and efficiency.
