A recent report indicates that electricians have a low risk of being replaced by AI and are in high demand, partly due to the need to build and maintain AI data centers. The report highlights that the role of an electrician has a 14% automation risk. This is in contrast to other manual professions, with some in agriculture and production facing an automation risk as high as 89-99%.

In the field of industrial automation, Siemens has introduced the new generation of its Simatic S7-1200 G2 control system, which is designed to meet modern cybersecurity requirements in line with the NIS2 directive. The new system is more compact, powerful, and features a simplified migration process from the previous generation.

Additionally, educational institutions are beginning to focus on careers in industrial automation for electrical technology students. For example, students from the Chariho Career and Technical Center's Electrical Technology class recently visited ProSystems Integration, an automation company, to learn about career opportunities in the industrial side of the electrical field. The visit was intended to expose students to a side of the electrical industry beyond residential and commercial work.
