In Westerly, Rhode Island, the Chariho Career and Technical Center's Electrical Technology class took a field trip to ProSystems Integration, a local automation company. The visit, which took place on Wednesday, was designed to show students the career opportunities available in the industrial side of the electrical field. The students were given a tour of the production floor by ProSystems engineer and Chariho alumnus Jesse Brunelle, and his father, John Brunelle, the company's president and owner. They explained that the company develops a wide variety of systems for different applications, including equipment for making medical tubing, and automated systems for companies like Hershey Chocolate and Krispy Kreme. The students also had the opportunity to speak with other engineers at the company, who explained their design process and the day-to-day work they do. Jesse Brunelle said he organized the visit to show students the careers available in the automation field, which he feels is not often highlighted in their curriculum. He hopes to continue bringing students to the company to expand their knowledge of career opportunities. The class's instructor, Ryan Northup, said the trip gave the students a real-world application of what they are learning in class and could inspire them to pursue a career in the field.
