Stockard Channing's Quiet Life in London

Stylized elegant portrait conveying quiet introspection and resilience

Stockard Channing, best known for her iconic role as Rizzo in "Grease," has embraced a reclusive lifestyle in London. This shift followed the death of her longtime partner, Dan Gillham, in 2014.

Channing, now 82, moved from Maine to London in 2019 and enjoys her secluded life, having expressed happiness in living away from the public eye. In various interviews, Channing has mentioned that her partner's death was more devastating than expected, leading her to rethink her life.

Her decision to relocate to London also coincided with changes in the political climate of the U.S., including the election of Donald Trump, which she noted influenced her decision.

A Career Still in Motion

Channing's career has not come to a halt. She continues to work in theater and is currently making her directorial debut with Samuel Beckett's "Krapp's Last Tape" at the Edinburgh Festival. She also returns to the screen in "Practical Magic 2," reprising her role as Aunt Frances Owens alongside Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.

Life on Her Own Terms

Channing has been married four times and chose not to have children. Reflecting on her life decisions, she acknowledges the potential challenges of having children and prefers the independence of her current lifestyle.
